Midwifery Service Fund

In Colorado, Certified Professional Midwives are not covered by Medicaid and have limited coverage with private insurance. To make midwifery care accessible, Community Roots started the Midwifery Service Fund (MSF) in 2016. The MSF allows those who have Medicaid or who are low-income receive midwifery care. Since its inception the MSF has given out over $140,000 in grants for prenatal, birth and postpartum care for birthing people and newborns.

Fourth Trimester Support

It is our belief that everyone deserves a midwife, but not everyone wants or can have a homebirth. In CRMC’s Fourth Trimester Support we meet our community where they are in the postpartum time. Our Midwives offer supplemental care alongside people’s other OBs or midwives to provide in-home midwifery care. In the visits after the family comes home CRMC midwives offer slow and heartfelt appointments that include baths, healing touch, counseling, baby feeding support, herbal recommendations, as well as coordinating with the family’s care providers to track physical wellness of the parent and baby as needed. CRMC Midwives see families in their home when they get home or around day 2, 1-week, 2- weeks, 4-weeks and 6- weeks that extends into a parenting group hosted by CRMC midwives where community and support are created.

Milk Circle and Nursing Nook

Community Roots Midwives, who are lactation experts, host our weekly Milk Circle Tuesdays 10:30- 11:30 in our office in Longmont. This group provides baby-feeding support, breastfeeding counseling, newborn weight checks, community building, referrals to other resources, and a place for parents to safely and comfortably feed their babies.

With similar goals as Milk Circle, we take the CRMC Nursing Nook out into community events like Farmers Market, Cinco de Mayo and Pride to provide a safe and comfortable place to feed babies in public spaces. This is an incredible space for people to access midwifery care and support while it is integrated into their community.

 Seed Fund

Once a year, CRMC gifts a local healer of color the Seed Fund. The Seed Fund started in 2020 with an Indigenous Midwife. Each year the previous recipient chooses the next years awardee. This beautiful chain of healers benefiting from the Seed Fund is just starting and we are excited to see how deep the web of connection will spread and how many people we can touch with this small offering.
