Honoring Birth: Community Celebration and Mural Installation
Community Roots Midwife Collective hosts annual gatherings for our community. In 2024, CRMC organized with local artists for a mural installation and celebration in downtown Longmont, CO. This event was free and family friendly.
When: Sunday, September 15th, 2024 from 1-5pm
Location: Downtown Longmont Art District
Alleyway between 3rd and 4th Streets and Coffman and Main (behind Tangerine Restaurant)
Details: The event began with a blessing offered by local Danzantes from groupo Tlahuitzcalli followed by a femme DJ spinning tunes, breakdancing performances, art activities and Mariachi Lobos closing the event in style. Food truck Los Lagos Taqueria and Olin Cafetzin were also on site.
The mural was designed by local BIPOC artists to show the importance of maternal and infant health within our community and beyond. The mural is earth-based, ancestrally inspired, and multicultural honoring children + youth, water carriers, life bringers, and the sacred cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. These cycles of life are shared by all humans, and CRMC believes that uplifting and celebrating the importance of wellness and care in these shared transitions is a powerful way to honor and unite our diverse communities.
